Job Description

Urban planning is a highly topical question these days with media discussion of housing, high speed rail, green belts and the probity and purpose of the planning system.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and energetic person with a wide ranging interest in urban planning and related fields. You will have a degree in planning or a related subject.

The RTPI is the professional institute for the UK's planners and is the largest in Europe with over 25,000 members. It also campaigns for the use of the art and science of town planning for the public benefit and on housing, economic and environmental issues. The RTPI is a membership organisation and a Chartered Institute responsible for maintaining professional standards, accrediting world class planning courses nationally and internationally and advancing the art and science of planning for the benefit of the public.

Key responsibilities of this role include:

  • Take a key support role in relation to the RTPI Research Awards 2019
  • Send out e-bulletins and operate relevant social media on behalf of the Department, in particular the Planning Education Research Network and the Urban Design Network
  • Take a lead role in certain projects or practice advice notes
  • Assist in other events organisation and on the day support
  • Assist with the European Biennial of Towns and Town Planners Plymouth September 2019
  • Update relevant sections of the RTPI website
  • Attend conferences, receptions and other meetings to become familiar with particular areas of policy
  • Arrange meetings and prepare and distribute papers if necessary
  • Undertake such other duties, commensurate with the post, as may be directed by the Deputy Head of Policy Research.
