A successful software house in East Kilbride is looking to add a UX Researcher to the team. The company decided to modernise their product offerings by moving from desktop to cloud a few years. This digital transformation has gone really well and overall, the business has been doing great. They've got an exciting couple years ahead with new product releases coming up, intriguing collaborations with other companies in the sector and continuous improvements on existing products. In terms of their design function, they're in a really interesting spot. Having introduced design-led thinking into the business a few years back, they've really seen it come into fruition over the last year or so and with that, the business has invested more and more into design. With this, they've expanded the team a few times and are now looking for a specialist UX Researcher to join as well. As an organisation, they're one of the best at bringing graduate/junior talent in and investing into upskilling them but for this role, they're ideally looking for someone that can come in and hit the ground running. You will be joining a design team of 5 people and will be the companies first out and out UX Researcher. The Designers in the team have a mix of skills - some are more UX Design focused, and others are more UI Design focused. They all understand the importance of research and can do their bit within research but none of them are specialist UX Researchers, which is where you will come in to play. As their first UX Researcher, you'll have a good amount of autonomy in terms of the research function. You'll be championed to apply and conduct whatever research method you think is best for whatever business problem you're trying to solve. The company have a lot of research-heavy work in the pipeline, so you'll have the opportunity to get involved in a lot of different stuff over the next few years. As mentioned, the company have very much embraced the importance of design and with that, design is not only Embedded into the software but into other areas such as sales, marketing and more - as it should be! With this, you'll be exposed to lots of different areas of the business and get to work closely with many different team members, which should be music to any UX Researcher's ears. In terms of someone's background, they are pretty flexible. As mentioned, they're looking for someone to come in and hit the ground running, so they're looking for someone that already has some commercial experience behind them. They do have a preference for someone that has experience working in a product environment as that will help someone settle in the role a bit quicker. Personality-wise, they're looking for someone that is a good problem solver and someone that enjoys collaboration - as a business, this is something they're huge on, so they'd expect you to have a similar mindset. The design function has done really well to drive the culture from design, and they'd want you to continue to help drive this. As mentioned, the company are based in East Kilbride but can be pretty flexible in terms of working. It's definitely not a fully remote role and they will expect some office commitment. If you're in the area, then they'd expect you to be in the office 2-3 times per week but if you're a bit further afield then they can be more flexible than this. They do have on-site team meetings a couple of times per month, which you'd be expected to attend. Salary on offer for the role is up to £45,000, which comes with a strong benefits package including a bonus scheme (10-15%), private healthcare and a good number of holidays. If you're a UX Researcher that wants to work for a software company that truly sees the importance in design, then please apply and/or contact Jack Steven at Cathcart Technology.

Old Brewers' Yard is a new, authentic brand home for Guinness in the UK, located in the historic brewing quarter in Covent Garden. Consisting of 52,000 square feet of historic buildings and central courtyard, this will become a key growth driver for Guinness, placing the brand in culture, driving relevancy and salience among a new generation of drinkers. The London brand home will be the GB home of Guinness: designed with sustainability in mind, bold, brave, exciting, and rooted in culture and community. It will provide beer which will be produced and served on site. This experimental beer will be produced from a live working 10hl brewery , a world-leading brewing facility which will produce innovation and limited-edition liquids to be served across the OBY site . The brewery will form part of a grain to glass immersive visitor experience in 1 Mercer Walk, which will also house dedicated space to build Diageo's southern hub for the Learning 4 Life programme, training hundreds of people per year in hospitality skills. PA Consulting works with clients who want to gain a commercial edge by using new technologies in emerging and established markets. For this we need chemists who want to go further than the theory, using it to formulate new products and build new manufacturing processes We translate science and technology into commercially viable break-out products and processes We give our clients a true competitive edge by collecting and interpreting experimental data to make rational product development decision, and then help them do that product development. The range of work performed at the Global Innovation and Technology Centre is broad and ever-changing. You might identify a new barrier coating, get in the lab to formulate and test it, design or build experimental setups to test hypotheses and transfer this knowledge as we scale to product and process launches. Or sometimes several of these at once. Each project is new and different - you will use all the science you learned in your degree and learn a lot more! Qualifications Product Design Engineering at PA is unique among technology consultancies in offering clients the opportunity to integrate new products and technology through to wider business solutions Our PDE programme is based out of our state-of-the-art Global Technology Centre in Melbourn. PA. Bringing Ingenuity to Life. Job Description Do you get excited about working out how to peel pineapples moving at 6 metres per second? Do you want to build a machine to cool a can of beer to -2°C in less than 10 seconds? Can you put together an experiment to measure the electrical impedance of human skin in an afternoon? We apply physics to solve real world commercial challenges. PA Consulting works with clients who want to gain a commercial edge by using new technologies in both new and established markets. The Applied Sciences team uses fundamental science to think differently and support early stage and proof of concept projects, ultimately answering the question, "Is this possible?" For this we need physicists who want to go further than the theory, and use it to build prototypes and ultimately work with engineering teams to bring new products to market. We translate science and technology into commercially viable break-out products and processes We give our clients a true competitive edge by collecting and interpreting experimental data to make rational product development decision, and then help them do that product development. Fast. Applied physicists will work as part of multi-disciplinary science and engineering teams to prototype, characterise and explore technologies and processes We are looking for 'hands on' scientists that like nothing better than finding new ways of solving problems to provide a competitive edge for our clients in sustainability, quantum systems, biomedical technologies, sensors and sensing systems and more in sectors as diverse as defence, food, medtech, energy and utilities This is a rare opportunity to work at the intersection of technical feasibility, business viability and consumer desirability. The range of work performed at the Global Innovation and Technology Centre is broad and ever-changing. You might build models of complex physical systems to understand expected performance, creatively identify new ways to solve technical challenges, design or build experimental setups to test hypotheses and transferring this knowledge all the way through to product and process launches. Or sometimes several of these at once Each new project is new and different - you will use all the science you learned in your degree and learn a lot more If you're a physicist who loves to solve real-world problems, we'd love to meet you. Qualifications Product Design Engineering at PA is unique among technology consultancies in offering clients the opportunity to integrate new products and technology through to wider business solutions Our PDE programme is based out of our state-of-the-art Global Technology Centre in Melbourn. As a member of our PDE team, you will innovate at the intersection of science, technology and market needs. We pride ourselves on developing innovative solutions to hard problems. We will provide you with the opportunity to work across a multitude of sectors, working within teams which take products from idea to market quickly and efficiently. You will be enrolled onto our Graduate Development Programme, including access to mentoring; and at the end of the scheme, you will be eligible for promotion to our Consultant Analyst rank. You should combine a strong theoretical and experimental background, with an enthusiasm for complex real-world technical problems. You should be: On track for an undergraduate degree in physics or related degree Able to demonstrate a creative approach to problem solving Excited to learn and apply new technical skills and rapidly acquire domain expertise Comfortable working in a hands-on lab setting and performing desk-based research or modelling Interested in the cutting edge of science and technology and have a desire to apply these advances in practical applications In addition, the following will also be beneficial but not essential: A Master's degree in a physical science This is an exciting opportunity to apply science in situations which will ultimately lead to real-world innovation.
