Do you want to play an important role in plant health and biosecurity and help protect our farming and natural environment. My client is a leading organisation that delivers science for the public good and tackles risks, including plant pests, diseases and chemicals that threaten our food security and natural environment. Reporting to the manager you will prepare and test samples, using molecular biology analysis, for plant health pests and diseases. In addition to the day-to-day service delivery work, you'll be involved in the assistance and maintenance of laboratory. This is a great opportunity for a recent graduate looking to enter the scientific industry. The Role: Assist with the diagnosis of plant diseases using molecular diagnostics (including real-time and conventional PCR) Processing of seed samples to aid detection of specified plant pathogenic bacteria Preparation and processing samples for diagnostic analysis using molecular techniques. Preparation and labelling of consumables Stock control/ordering consumables used in diagnostic work Be responsible for helping to clean and maintain routinely used facilities and equipment. Ensure best laboratory practice is employed at all times with an adherence to ISO17025 and ISO9001 quality accreditation standards. The Candidate: You will have a science qualification from university or equivalent, across any of these specialisms (biology, agriculture, microbiology, biochemistry, biomedical or molecular science). You will enjoy and or have experience of working in a laboratory following protocols and standard operating procedures. Experience using techniques such as PCR, ELISA, and Microbiology would be advantageous.
