Senior Engineer (Nuclear Technical Author) Would you like to play a key supporting role across a number of submarine programmes? We currently have a vacancy for a Senior Engineer (Nuclear Technical Author) at our site in Barrow-in-Furness. As a Senior Engineer (Nuclear Technical Author), you will be part of the Nuclear Authoring Team providing technical services to support the manufacture, build and commissioning of the Nuclear Steam Raising Plant on multiple PWR platforms. This role covers both in-build and future submarine programmes and will be accountable for supporting the delivery of nuclear processes and procedures, facilities readiness, fuel, standards compliance and build readiness, amongst other related areas. This role will provide you with interaction and understanding of a wide range of internal and external stakeholders, as well as training and development specific to this role. You will work as part of an integrated team to develop processes and procedures for manufacturing, build and commissioning methods. The duties of this role are technically challenging and diverse. Your main responsibilities as a Senior Engineer (Nuclear Technical Author) will involve: Authoring and maintaining nuclear processes and procedures in support of programme delivery demands through the analysis of multiple sources of technical information and stakeholder engagement and collaboration. Reviewing complex engineering drawings, engineering requirements and nuclear safety requirements, to author high-quality and accurate nuclear processes and procedures which are clear, comprehensible, coherent, concise, and safe. Liaising and collaborating with all relevant stakeholders/suppliers/subcontractors to clarify technical issues and to ensure that their requirements are adequately supported, that their needs are fully considered and incorporated where appropriate. Ensuring that nuclear processes and procedures satisfy associated design, safety case, security and health and safety requirements, that BAE Systems, our business parties, and customers demand. Providing expertise and support during key nuclear build events (this may entail working outside of core working hours on an infrequent short-term basis). Articulating and presenting nuclear build procedures to the Procedure Authorisation Group (PAG) for assessment and approval and, where required, amend procedures in accordance with PAG feedback. Monitoring and recording of progress, status, dependencies etc. into production schedules. Working within Nuclear Production facilities and on-board submarines as part of the procedure authorship cycle and process confirmation / auditing tasks. Ensuring a comprehensive set of work file records for nuclear processes and procedures, are developed and maintained to a standard which and can tolerate scrutiny during audit events. Investigating contentious/vague information to bring about clarity and meaning for the benefit of the quality of processes and procedures under authorship. Your skills and qualifications as a Senior Engineer (Technical Author): Essential: Knowledge of manufacturing and assembly processes, document generation and health and safety legislation in a manufacturing environment. You have strong knowledge of technical report writing and have demonstrable experience of producing technical documents within one of the following environments: nuclear/defence/manufacturing/engineering/construction. HNC or equivalent qualification or experience within relevant engineering discipline. Excellent working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Microsoft Word. Able to gather and analyse information of the end user and organise information according to associated requirements and end user's needs. Strong communication skills both written and verbal Excellent attention to detail and accuracy Experience of being able to gather and convert data/information into written narrative. Desirable: A good understanding and experience of naval propulsion systems, structures, and components would be an advantage. Experience of technical report writing and/or procedural writing. Mechanical or Electrical Engineering background. Ability to use Document Management Systems. Good working knowledge of Microsoft Visio. As part of our Learning and Development Design and Curriculum team, you'll help lead the design process for all PwC traditional classroom and technology enabled learning solutions. We operate in a strict regulatory environment based on defined learning objectives, largely driven by global network requirements, findings from regulatory reviews and input from various subject matter experts (SMEs). The work undertaken and the specific projects you will be involved with will be based on your skillset, areas of expertise and interests, and an accounting qualification is required. You will be expected to maintain and update your technical expertise, your links with your home business unit, and current engagements as required. The Audit Technical Lead Author is responsible for applying foundation design skills in conjunction with their technical accounting and audit expertise to develop Audit training material for classroom or technology-enabled solutions. As current auditing practitioners, the authors are the first line of defence to ensure materials are technically accurate, however, they will work closely with the relevant SMEs. Specifically, they will be responsible for designing and writing Audit technical learning materials in partnership with experienced T&D professionals including both new content required to address emerging business requirements, and substantial tailoring of existing UK content to reflect changing regulatory or business requirements. This will be across a range of delivery approaches, e.g. face-to-face sessions, simulation or elearn.
